Mrs. Jessica Harris (2nd grade)

Second grade is fabulous!  We have fun learning, playing games, and doing experiments.  Best of all, we get to receive two special sacraments this year, First Reconciliation and First Communion!

Latest News

First Communion was April 21st at St. Wenceslaus at 10:00!  The First Communicants worked very hard in preparing to receive Jesus for the first time.  Please join me in praying for themas they continue to grow in their faithfilled journey!

The second grade class has been writing letters back and forth to their penpals at Villa Duchesne Oak Hill School all year.  They finally got to meet their penpals on May 17th at Tower Grove Park!  They introduced themselves, played a game, and made ornaments for the babies in the NICU.

Before spring break, second grade students invited family members to speak about their jobs.  We learned from more than ten visitors, including a nurse, pharmaceutical scientist, director of housing, phone technician, lawyer, chef, police officers, and much more!  Thank you to all who visited, and helped us learn more about jobs in our community!

Second Grade Homework

Each night for homework, second graders need to complete the following:

  • The B side of their Saxon Math fact practice, and guided practice
  • Study their spelling words for the test on Friday

  •  Read 10 minutes

  • On nights that no Math homework is assigned, students will have a short 3 sentence book report

Why do you enjoy teaching at Cabrini?  Cabrini has become part of my family.  The faculty, staff, students, parents, and community are friendly and always willing to help.  The teachers, parents, and students work together to make sure everyone has the best education possible!

What do students learn in 2nd grade?  In second grade, students receive Reconciliation and First Communion, and study the Old and New Testament.  Some of the other things we learn to do are multiply, make line and bar graphs, read chapter books, write paragraphs, study the human body, solar system, dinosaurs, and the continents.

How would you describe your teaching style and methods?  My students work a lot with manipulatives, so they can learn by "doing".  We also work and learn from each other in small and large groups, epecially during center time.  We don't sit at our desks very often, but rather are on the floor and moving around the room.  We also love to do experiments and try new things!
